Aww Shift

Nov 26, 2021

In this episode of Aww Shift Podcast, we have invited JB Spisso, a Retired Sergeant Major from the United States Army, Owner of JBS Leaderships Consultant, LLC, a Leadership & Culture Expert, and Author of the book “Warrior Leadership: Steps to Success for Leaders on the Ground.” Today, JB talks about leadership and how to make your shine glow brighter for the world to see.

[05:58] Why should we listen to you?

You should listen to me because I take your talent to another level as I listen to your success and failure stories.

[10:48] Motivation

Believe in yourself that you can do it. You can prove it to the people who doubted you but prove that you can do impossible things possible for yourself first. You can’t rank your success to someone else because they climb differently than you do. Wake up every morning with victory and powerful thoughts to start your great day.

[16:23] Book Inspiration

I wrote the book to help aspiring leaders and current leaders learn simple things—how leadership is a learned trait, knowing the power of handwritten “Thank You” letters, showing gratitude, and how to bring calm in the chaos.

[18:50] Leadership

Leadership is a journey throughout life. You are never too good to learn. There are things you can learn from it. It is crucial to be authentic as a leader.

[20:28] Find the authentic leadership style that works for you and see how people gravitate towards it. When you mentor someone, don’t make an imitation of yourself. Provide them the guidance but let them spread their wings and talent shine. Be creative enough to challenge them in becoming the best version of themselves.

[24:33] What promise did God make to the world when He created you?

To motivate and inspire as many people as I can and assist them in becoming successful. My legacy will be known how I made them take the next step.

Key Quotes:

[06:20 – 06:23] “We are not born leaders—it is a learned trait.”

[08:58 – 09:06] “Leaders make mistakes the entire time. As a leader, own it and move on.”

[11:31 – 11:40] “Everybody takes a different path to success. As long as it is healthy and move along with it, you define what timeline is.”

[22:44 – 22:49] “The leader does not only have to get used to us, we also have to get used to them.”
